Istanbul, July 9 (Hibya)—United Nations data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) showed that Turkey's child population ratio of 26 percent is higher than that of European Union member states.

According to the United Nations world population projections, when the child population rates of 27 European Union (EU) member countries are analysed, it was seen that the countries with the highest child population rate in 2023 are Ireland with 23.3 percent, Sweden with 21.0 percent and France with 20.7 percent, respectively. The countries with the lowest child population rates were Italy with 15.1 per cent, Malta with 15.6 per cent and Portugal with 16.0 per cent.

Thus, Turkey's child population ratio was 26.0 per cent, which is higher than the child population ratio of EU member states.

According to the United Nations population estimates, when the proportion of the 0-17 age group child population in the total population was analyzed by countries, the countries with the highest proportion of child population were Niger and Central African Republic, with 55.5 percent in 2023. These countries were followed by Chad with 54.2 percent and Mali with 54.0 percent. The country with the lowest proportion of child population was the Republic of Korea, with 13.9 percent. This country was followed by Japan with 14.1 percent and Singapore with 14.2 percent.
 
The world average for the proportion of children was 29.8 percent in 2023. The proportion of Türkiye children, 26.0 percent, was lower than that of the world child population average.

According to the United Nations population estimates, when the proportion of the 15-24 age group youth population in the total population was analyzed by country, the country with the highest youth population was Syria, with 24.1 percent in 2023. That country was followed by Central African Republic and Timor-Leste with 22.3 percent and Eritrea with 22.1 percent. The country with the lowest youth population was Ukraine, with 6.8 percent. That country was followed by Qatar with 7.6 percent and Monaco with 8.5 percent.
 
The world average the proportion of the youth population was 15.5 percent in 2023. Türkiye's youth population, at 15.1 percent, was just below the world average.

According to the United Nations population estimates, when the proportions of the youth population of 27 EU member countries were analyzed in 2023, the countries with the highest proportion of youth population were Ireland with 13.1 percent, Denmark with 12.0 percent, and the Netherlands with 11.9 percent, respectively. The countries with the lowest proportion of youth population were Malta with 9.0 percent, Lithuania with 9.4 percent, Bulgaria, and Slovenia with 9.5 percent, respectively.
 
The proportion of Türkiye's youth population, 15.1 percent, was higher than that of the 27 EU member countries.
